Mathilde Bussard (Suisse), Huaral, Peru

Some visual impressions from my internship in Bangladesh
Noah Wong (Schweiz), Dhaka, Bangladesh
Through the following series of pictures I’d like to share with you my internship experiences here in Bangladesh. Those of you who have already followed my earlier blog entries might have a better understanding of the context of the pictures - for all the others I have added short commentaries. I hope you will enjoy the trip. Bon voyage!

My fifth and sixth week in Bangladesh
Noah Wong (Schweiz), Dhaka, Bangladesh
During the forth and fifth week I spent most of my time in the office, writing reports and planning events. I didn’t bother much about staying inside, as for most of the days it rained anyway and therefore the roads were very muddy and most of all jammed. It fact it rained almost non-stop during five days. I should add, that the monsoon rains not just created traffic problems, they also caused a lot of heavy floods - especially in the south of the country. Many farmers lost huge parts of land as they where devoured by the overflowing rivers. Newspapers reported day by day about deaths caused by floods in villages, in the fields and on the streets. These seasonal flooding have always been part Bangladesh, but it seems they have increased – not in number but in the flooding dimension – together with the climate changes in the last 10 to 20 years...

My third and forth week in Bangladesh
Noah Wong (Schweiz), Dhaka, Bangladesh
Dear friends, more than two weeks have passed since my last blog entry. Well, there are some reasons to it. Right on the beginning of my third week I fell ill and the doctors diagnosed dengue fever. The infection forced me to bed for quite some time and it took me almost ten days to recover. During this period I concentrated my forces only on my health and had therefore to put a short break to my internship...

My second week in Bangladesh
Noah Wong (Schweiz), Dhaka, Bangladesh
In this second week I got two main assignments. The first was to assist the planning and the implementation of a meeting on ‘Promoting Volunteerism and Youth Works in Bangladesh and Switzerland’. The meeting started with a speech on volunteerism held by a philosophy teacher, then it was my turn, I introduced my student organization (Kommission für Entwicklungshilfe), the Swiss National Youth Council (SAJV), the ‘Süd Projekt’ and my internship in the National Youth Council of Bangladesh (NYCB), and at last seven youth organizations from all over Bangladesh introduced them selves and their volunteer work. In the whole we were very satisfied with the outcome of the event...

First week in Bangladesh and first blog entry
Noah Wong (Schweiz), Dhaka, Bangladesh
Dhaka. Exactly one week ago I started my traineeship in the BNYC (Bangladesh National Youth Council) and in the HOPE’87 (Hundreds of Original Projects for Employment). Everyone is looking very well after me. I have been received as an intern (not as visitor) of HOPE’87 and some fellow worker even treat me as their family member. So many meetings have I attended and so many people have I met, that my purse is already overflowing with visit cards. I have even been introduced to the Minister of youth and sports of Bangladesh. My biggest problems at the moment is getting around in the city, Dhaka’s streets are so densely populated and so chaotic that even with the craziest rickshaw driver you won’t be much faster than if you were by walk. This is a good reason to appreciate the ongoing strikes of the oppositional party (Bangladesh Nationalized Party), as the streets are much less jammed.
