On 16th October, we along with Nicole (CO-President-SNYC) went to Basel city to pass the weekend there when all the team members of SNYC were in Italy for their pre-scheduled tour. Nicole guided us the whole day showing around her home city BASEL and made our weekend very enjoyable.
On 17th October, we had a presentation of our respected Organisations. I discussed about Bangladesh, youth activities in Bangladesh, activities of HOPE‘87BD, National Youth Council of Banglaesh (NYCB) and some other organisations I am working with.
The most interesting event in the third week of my traineeship that I should share is the Annual Conference of Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Switzerland titled- Uprisings in the Arab world: between hope and fears. It was on 18th October and the President of the Swiss Confederation, Micheline Calmy-Rey was present in the conference. It was surprising for me not to see too much security arrangements for the Presidint, cause in Bangladesh, it’s always a huge security arrangement for the President and the Prime Minister. However, in the full day conference there were different pannels discussing on different issues like Arab Appraising, testimony of youth leaders from Arab countries, Impact of Arab Appraising on Palestine-Israel conflict etc. There were around 800 participants in the conference. It was great to meet the famous auther of Egypt, Nawal El Saadawi there in the conference. For me, as well as for most of participants, the speech of Nawal El Saadawi was quite interesting, inspiring and enjoyable also.
Besides the above stories, last week we also went to Luzern on a very cold and rainy day to visit Young Caritas where I met Andriu who had very recent experiences of visiting Bangladesh. It was nice meeting him and also having some chat regarding his visit to my country.
We went to Geneva on 21st October to attend GIMUN at United Nations Office.
Now I am actually working with Intermundo, a partner organisation of SNYC and will be working with them till 28th October. Then I am moving to Geneva next week and there I will spend the next three weeks working with different organisations.
Days are really passing so fast. It’s been almost a month I am in Switzerland. Now I am a bit more used to with Swiss systems and food also. I tasted typical Swiss dish Fondue at Olivier’s place. I liked the dish very much and I also learnt how to cook it. That evening I spent a nice time there with Celine, Kate, Nicole and of course Olivier.
I wish to prepare it someday...:).
Well that’s it for now. I hope to keep you updated.
